Type With Pride
In 2017, Gilbert Baker, LGBTQ activist and creator of the iconic rainbow flag, passed away. As an artist, and was known for helping friends create banners for protests and marches. To honor his memory, Newfest and NYCPride partnered with Ogilvy & Mather to create a free font inspired by the design of the rainbow flag, aptly named ‘Gilbert.’
In addition to the typeface, we launched Type With Pride — a typography project and social campaign that honored the people, places, films and cultural moments that have shaped and empowered the LGBTQ+ community.
